BECAUSE EXPOSURE TO ELEVATED LEVELS of radon is estimated to cause 7 000 to 30 000 lung cancer deaths each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Surgeon General have recommended that indoor radon levels be reduced to less than 148 Bq m-3 . This chapter covers strategies that can be used to effectively reduce elevated radon levels in buildings.
