Efficient Sand Compaction Method Using Handheld Mini Plate Vibrator for Model Experiments
Abstract
This study presents a novel method for the rapid preparation of a highly dense sand bed suitable for large-scale model experiments. By using a handheld mini plate vibrator, the method achieves dense to very dense sand conditions, reaching up to 90 % relative density through a calibrated vibration technique. The process begins with filling the test tank with a 100-mm layer of loose sand, which is then compacted using the mini plate vibrator. This procedure is repeated layer by layer until the entire tank is filled, ensuring a homogenous high-density sand bed. The reliability of the method was confirmed through multiple trials, demonstrating that this approach is quick, straightforward, and time-efficient for producing dense to very dense sand beds in large-scale experimental settings.
