Scope
1.1 This specification covers projectiles manufactured for use with hydrogel projectile launchers and is to be used in conjunction with Specification F3741. This specification establishes requirements and characteristics of a hydrogel projectile which help define whether a hydrogel projectile is suitable for use with a hydrogel projectile launcher. Furthermore, the specification establishes the minimum warning and packaging labeling requirements to help ensure that hydrogel projectiles are used as intended, in a safe manner and that the risk of injury is reduced.
1.2Limitations—This specification does not cover the following categories of projectiles: Projectiles as defined in Consumer Safety Specification F590 and which are commonly referred to as BB’s or pellets; low velocity resilient material projectiles as defined in Specification F2573; projectiles used in the sport of paintball as defined in Specification F1979, projectiles used with airsoft guns as defined in Specification F2679, projectiles in toys as defined in Specification F963, metallic projectiles, and non-recreational projectiles such as those used by law enforcement, scientific, or military, industrial or theatrical entities.
1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
1.4This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.5This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
