Significance and Use
4.1Rapid Methods Deliver:
4.1.1 The outline, but not the details, of a product profile, and
4.1.2 The attributes that are most easily detected, described, or generated.
4.2 Rapid methods may be applicable to product screening, narrowing down samples, and for preliminary product development work.
4.3 Rapid methods can be used with trained and untrained assessors, including project team members.
4.4 This guide will serve as an umbrella document to help guide the choice of the rapid method that is most appropriate for project objectives.
Scope
1.1 The purpose of this guide is to discuss selecting and using methods that can be used to describe the sensory characteristics of products. It focuses specifically on the methods commonly referred to as rapid methods. This term will be used throughout this guide to describe these methods.
1.2 The requirements, strengths, and limitations for each rapid method are explained and the rationale for the selection of a specific rapid method is provided. Descriptive-based and similarity-based rapid methods are both presented in this guide.
1.3 Descriptive analysis (DA) is outside the scope of this guide; please refer to Ref (1)2 for guidance on this methodology.
1.4 This guide will not explain in detail the methodology associated with each specific sensory test method, although helpful references to existing publications are included.
1.5This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
Domestic orders are delivered via United Parcel Service (UPS) or United States Postal Service (USPS). Transit
times average 3 to 5 business days. Please be aware that UPS will not deliver packages to Post Office Boxes.
International orders are delivered via courier post services which can be either a postal service, courier
service, or a combination of both. Standard Service is untraceable. Please allow 4-7 weeks for delivery.
Please be aware that carriers will not deliver packages to Post Office Boxes. Because of the variability of
customs processes and procedures in different countries, ASTM International cannot guarantee transit times to
international destinations. Customs duty and taxes are the responsibility of the consignee.
