Significance and Use
4.1Â This practice is of use to persons who present opinions regarding primer gunshot residue analysis results and to provide guidance to those in the legal community who use such opinions.
4.2Â This practice is intended to be used in conjunction with Practice E620, Test Method E1588, and Guide E3309.
Scope
1.1Â This practice covers the range of opinions that are currently supported by the existence of a body of published scientific literature. This practice does not address all possible circumstances that might be encountered when giving an opinion.
1.2Â The use of this practice presumes that the data on which an opinion is being offered was obtained under requirements of Test Method E1588 or a comparable published standard.
1.3Â This practice is intended for use by competent forensic science practitioners with the requisite formal education, discipline-specific training (refer to Practices E2917 and E3284), and demonstrated proficiency to perform forensic casework.
1.4Â This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.5Â This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
