Significance and Use
5.1 The pyrolysis of waste tires produces, along with recovered Carbon Black, Tire Pyrolysis Oil and Other Rubber Pyrolysis Co-Products.
5.2 TPO can be used, either directly or through further processing, as an energy source or as a feedstock in various industries (please see Appendix X1 and Appendix X2). This guide is intended to give guidance in the accepted test methods to characterize and assess specific properties of TPO, regardless of tires feedstock source and end-use applications.
Scope
1.1 This guide summarizes the currently accepted test methods to characterize Tire Pyrolysis Oil (TPO) and covers a limited set of physical properties specific for users’ evaluation and potential applications. This guide is primarily intended for testing to determine conformance to applicable feedstocks or product specifications as stated in supplier or customer specifications, or both.
1.1.1 Physical properties analyses measure parameters which play a crucial role in determining the oil’s quality, handling, storage requirements, safety and application properties.
1.2Units—The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.3This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.4This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
