Significance and Use
5.1 This test method is significant for applications where iron leaching may affect product quality, such as in food, chemical purification, or decolorization processes.
5.2 Users should validate equipment performance, ensuring no interferences from other sample matrix components.
5.3 Ensure materials in contact with the sample or solutions (for example, glass, ceramics, or plastic) do not introduce iron contamination.
Scope
1.1 This test method covers the determination of acid-soluble iron content in granular and powdered activated carbons using suitable analytical equipment. This test method involves extracting the iron with hydrochloric acid and quantifying it through analytical techniques appropriate for the selected equipment. This test method does not determine the total iron concentration of a sample.
