Significance and Use
4.1 This test method is the procedure of choice for determining the volatile content in aerosol coatings under specified test conditions modeled after Method 35.4 The inverse value, nonvolatile, is used to determine the weight percent solids content. This information is useful to the paint producer, user, and to environmental interests for determining the grams of volatile organic compounds per gram of solids emitted from aerosol cans.
Scope
1.1 This test method is for the determination of the weight percent volatile organic compounds of solvent-borne paints in aerosol cans. It offers a unique way to obtain paint specimens from aerosol cans.
1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.3This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. A specific hazard statement is given in 6.7.
1.4This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
