Significance and Use
4.1 This guide is useful as a reference by an owner and/or the engineer in preparing project specifications.
4.2 This guide is useful as a reference by an owner, engineer, or installing contractor to properly install precast concrete pipe with grouted connections into precast concrete structures.
4.3 By following these guide procedures the installer and owner can be assured of achieving a soil tight connection between the concrete pipe and concrete structure.
Scope
1.1 This guide focuses on one key aspect of the system, the connection of concrete pipe and the precast concrete structure and the procedures to best accomplish this. The information presented in this guide provides guidance for opening sizing and grouting procedures for precast concrete pipe connections to precast structures.
1.2 This guide is not recommended for use with thermoplastic pipes to concrete structure connections. For those types of installations refer to the pipe manufacturers’ recommendations and procedures.
1.3Units—The values stated in either inch pound or [SI units] are to be regarded separately as standard. The SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system should be used independently.
1.4This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.5This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
