ASTM E18 Standard Test Method for Rockwell Hardness of Metallic Materials -- eLearning Course
About the Course
These test methods cover the determination of the Rockwell hardness and the Rockwell superficial hardness of metallic materials, including test methods for the verification of machines for Rockwell hardness testing and the calibration of standardized hardness test blocks.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Identify principles of test and apparatus, including steps for the Rockwell Hardness test method and requirements for portable Rockwell Hardness testing machines.
- Recognize requirements for test piece.
- Recall Rockwell Hardness test procedures, including those for the test cycle and indentation spacing.
- Recall when or if conversion to other hardness scales or tensile strength values are appropriate.
- Define reporting requirements for ASTM E18.
Audience
Anyone who runs the E18 test method or who needs an understanding of the test method and how it is properly run.
