ASTM C138 / C138M Standard Test Method for Density (Unit Weight), Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete -- eLearning Course

About the Course
This course covers determination of the density of freshly mixed concrete and gives formulas for calculating the yield, cement content, and air content of the concrete. Yield is defined as the volume of concrete produced from a mixture of known quantities of the component materials.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify apparatus and related components used for determination of density (unit weight), yield, and air content (gravimetric) of concrete including tamping rod and internal vibrator.
- Recall procedures for measure filling, consolidation, strike off, cleaning and weighing including those for rodding and internal vibration methods of consolidation.
- Identify calculation procedure, including those for the determination of density and yield.
- Define reporting requirements as outlined in ASTM C138/C138M.
Audience
Anyone who runs the C138 test method or who needs an understanding of the test method and how it is properly run.
