ASTM D5599 Standard Test Method for Determination of Oxygenates in Gasoline by Gas Chromatography and Oxygen Selective Flame Ionization Detection -- eLearning Course

About the Course
This course covers the test method for a gas chromatographic procedure for the quantitative determination of organic oxygenated compounds in gasoline having a final boiling point not greater than 220 degrees C and oxygenates having a boiling point limit of 130 degrees C. It is applicable when oxygenates are present in the 0.1 to 20 percent by mass range.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the theory of OFID operation
- Identify apparatus, reagents, and materials used for the quantitative determination of organic oxygenated compounds in gasoline including the OFID detector system and internal standards
- Define the steps for preparation, calibration, and standardization of apparatus as outlined in ASTM D5599, including gas flow and calibration sample preparation
- Recall the procedure for the quantitative determination of organic oxygenated compounds in gasoline
- Identify calculation and reporting requirements for ASTM D5599
- Recognize quality control checks for ASTM 5599, including those for intralaboratory repeatability and accuracy
