About the Course

This course is based on ASTM D1169 Standard Test Method for Specific Resistance (Resistivity) of Electrical Insulating Liquids. This test method covers the determination of specific resistance (resistivity) applied to new electrical insulating liquids, as well as to liquids in service, or subsequent to service, in cables, transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical apparatus.

The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify test circuit components and construction, including materials required to reduce leakage and ensure adequate shielding.
  • Describe conditions required for sampling and testing of materials, including considerations for temperature and humidity.
  • Recognize how the sample and test cell are to be prepared for test, with a particular focus on cleaning procedures for the cell.
  • Recall the procedure for determination of specific resistance (resistivity) and permissible modifications when making routine tests that require less accuracy.
Certificate and CEUs

CEUs: .1

Certificate: A certificate is available upon successful completion of the course and an 80% or higher score on the exam.
