ASTM D256 Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance of Plastics - eLearning Course
About the Course
This course is based on ASTM D256 Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance of Plastics. These test methods cover the determination of the resistance of plastics to “standardized” pendulum-type hammers, mounted in “standardized” machines, in breaking standard specimens with one pendulum swing.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the requirements for test specimens by type, and recognize restrictions on specimen preparation and condition.
- Recognize the parameters for producing an acceptable notch, especially as it pertains to cutter speed and feed.
- Identify how specimens are to be conditioned prior to testing, and under what conditions the test shall be performed.
- Recall the procedure for determination of impact resistance for Test Method A, and identify the procedural variations for Test Method C.
Certificate and CEUs
CEUs: .1 or 1 PDH
Certificate: A certificate of completion is available upon successful completion of the course and an 80% or higher score on the exam.
