ASTM D5453 Standard Test Method for Determination of Total Sulfur in Light Hydrocarbons, Spark Ignition Engine Fuel, Diesel Engine Fuel, and Engine Oil by Ultraviolet Fluorescence -- eLearning Course

About the Course
This course covers the test method for the determination of total sulfur in liquid hydrocarbons, boiling in the range from approximately 25 to 400 degrees C, with viscosities between approximately 0.2 and 20 cSt (mm2/S) at room temperature.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Recall the components of the apparatus used in this test method
- Recall the procedural steps for sampling
- Recall the procedural steps for preparation of the apparatus
- Describe typical sulfur calibration ranges and concentrations
- Recall the steps to determine volumetric and gravimetric dilution of the sample
- Identify the formulas used to calculate the sulfur content of the sample
- Recall the correct method for reporting sulfur results
