About the Course
This course is based on ASTM D882 Standard Test Method for Tensile Properties of Thin Plastic Sheeting. This test method covers the the determination of tensile properties of plastics in the form of thin sheeting and films (less than 1.0 mm (0.04 in.) in thickness).
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the parameters for test specimen size, count, and preparation with a focus on precautions meant to preserve specimen condition.
- Recognize requirements for rate of separation and how that relates to initial strain rate.
- Recall the steps required for setting up the apparatus and specimen for testing, what shall be observed during the testing period, and under what conditions the test can be discontinued.
