ASTM Standard Guide for Magnetic Particle Testing. This guide covers covers techniques for both dry and wet magnetic particle testing, a nondestructive method for detecting cracks and other discontinuities at or near the surface in ferromagnetic materials.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the equipment and magnetic particle materials outlined in this guide, including equipment used for visual examination of indications.
- Recognize the requirements for part preparation and identify the succeeding operation sequence of particle application and establishment of magnetic flux field by technique.
- Describe the various types of magnetizing currents outlined in the guide.
- Recognize the techniques for magnetization of the part as well as options for magnetic field direction and strength and when they are best employed.
- Recall the procedures for application of both wet and dry magnetic particles, including how discontinuities can be observed based on material and application technique.
- Describe how indications are to be interpreted and recorded, identify method by indication image as presented in Annex A1.
- Recognize demagnetization methods and requirements for post examination cleaning.
- Recognize parameters for process controls, written procedures, and operator safety.
