ASTM D8421 Standard Test Method for Determination of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Aqueous Matrices by Co-solvation followed by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) -- eLearning Course

About the Course
This course is based on Standard Test Method for Determination of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Aqueous Matrices by Co-solvation followed by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). This test method covers the determination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in aqueous matrices using liquid chromatography (LC) and detection with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). This course does not replace the ASTM standard. You may download a copy of the entire standard in the resources section.
This course includes downloadable resources including a procedural outline and a pdf of the standard, instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. The course can be completed in about one hour.
Whether you're enhancing your skills, advancing your environmental expertise, or looking for a tool to train your whole team-- this course provides the insights you need to navigate the complexities of PFAS analysis.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Identify possible interferences for this method and procedures used to avoid interference during testing, especially as it pertains to PFAS contamination
- Describe LC/MS/MS apparatus and additional materials used for determination of PFASs in aqueous matrices
- Recognize parameters and precautions used to preserve the condition and purity of the sample
- Identify operating parameters for the LC/MS/MS apparatus
- Recall procedures for preparation of calibration standards and the end CCV as well as the steps for obtaining an acceptable quadratic calibration curve or linear regression that follow
- Describe the preparation procedures for laboratory reagent blanks, field reagent blanks, and laboratory fortified blanks, and matrix spikes for lab and method quality control
- Recall the procedure for determination of PFASs in aqueous matrices, including what each batch should contain and requirements for filtration and pH adjustment
- Identify calculation and reporting requirements for the test method, including how results shall be identified and interpreted
Certificate and CEUs
