ASTM D1709 Standard Test Methods for Impact Resistance of Plastic Film by the Free-Falling Dart – eLearning Course

About the Course
This course is based on ASTM D1709 Standard Test Methods for Impact Resistance of Plastic Film by the Free-Falling Dart Method. This procedure covers the determination of the energy that causes plastic film to fail under specified conditions of impact of a free-falling dart. This course does not replace the ASTM standard.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.

- Explain how to prepare the apparatus by Test Method A and Test Method B.
- Describe the procedure for testing impact resistance of plastic film by free-falling dart method using the Staircase Testing Technique and the Alternative Testing Technique.
- Recall the steps for calculating the impact failure weight for both the Staircase Testing Technique and the Alternative Testing Technique.
- Describe the requirements for routine inspection and acceptance of test specimens.
- Identify the reporting requirements for impact resistance testing.
