About the Course
This course is based on ASTM B117 Standard Procedure for Operating Salt Spray (Fog) Apparatus. This procedure covers the apparatus, procedure, and conditions required to create and maintain the salt spray (fog) test environment. This course does not replace the ASTM standard.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe requirements for the preparation of test specimens and their positioning during exposure.
- Identify requirements for preparation and usage of the salt solution and air supply for testing, including those specific to chemical/impurity content and pH.
- Recognize apparatus positioning and fog collection requirements within the salt spray chamber as well as temperature parameters to be met during testing.
- Identify requirements for continuity and period of exposure.
- Recall requirements for cleaning of test specimens.
- Recognize reporting requirements as outlined for ASTM B117.
